The Catechism:           The 3rd Commandment

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

     What does this mean?

We should fear and love God that we do not despise preaching and his Word, but regard it as holy and gladly hear and learn it.

Hymn of the Week:      Renew Me, O Eternal Light (CW 689)

Renew me, O eternal Light, and let my heart and soul be bright,

Illumined with the light of grace that issues from your holy face.

Create in me a new heart, Lord, that gladly I obey your Word.

O let your will be my desire and with new life my soul inspire.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be they name, thy kingdom come, thy will be down on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily break; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer

I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger.  Keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please you.  Info your hands I commend my body and soul and all things.  Let your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me.  Amen.

Or

Luther’s Evening Prayer

I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have graciously kept me this day.  Forgive me all my sins, and graciously keep me this night.  Into your hands I commend my body and soul and all things.  Let your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me.  Amen.

Then, if it is morning, go joyfully to your work, according to your vocation in life, in faith toward God and love toward your neighbor; or, if it is the close of day, go to sleep at once and in good cheer.
